History

The Hastings Junior Fire Brigade was established on the 13th of August, 1992, when it held its first meeting. 

Under the guidance of Junior Leader, Mel Dewis, our Juniors were successful competitors in the winter and summer Fire Brigade Competitions.  Today many trophies are proudly on display in the cabinet in the foyer of the Hastings Fire Station.

Many of the past Junior Fire Brigade members have progressed to become senior members of the Hastings Fire Brigade and other C.F.A. brigades.

Today

Today we are known as the ‘Hastings Hornets’ and our Junior Leader is Robert Kupsch, who is an operational volunteer members of the Hastings Fire Brigade.  Frequently, other senior members of our brigade will also assist our Junior Leaders with training.  

We see are Junior Volunteer Development Program at Hastings an important way to recruit & mould the fire fighters of the future.   We promote team building and comradeship amongst our Junior Fire Brigade members whilst learning many aspects of fire fighting.  Training includes practical theory on Wildfire Fire & Compartment Fire, Tanker and Hose Laying Drills, Draughting, Search and Rescue, Radio Operations & Map Reading just name a few.

Our Juniors Fire Brigade members are involved in the Westernport Festival Parade, Anzac Day Parade and social nights.
We have had excursions to the Fire Museum, the local police station, Tullamarine Airport Fire Station, Frankston S.E.S. and to the movies to name a few.
Our Junior Fire Brigade meet every Monday night from 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 (except on school and publicholidays) at the Hastings Fire Station, 149 High St, Hastings.  You must be aged between 11 years and 16 years old and have a parent or guardian's permission. After a probationary period of 3 months, we will provide you with C.F.A. Junior Volunteer Development Program  polo shirt and cap.  We have also designed our own polo shirt and caps which can be purchased through the brigade at minimal price.
