King Street Fire Station October 1952 until June 2001
Official Opening
November 25th 2001 by Hon. Andre Haermeyer MLA |
The Hastings Fire Brigade was officially formed at a Public meeting on 23rd November 1942, held at Hastings Hall. The Brigade was registered with then the Country Fire Brigades Board. (which is now known as the Country Fire Authority) Prior to the Fire Brigade being formed, the locals came together to help their neighbours times of Fire or Emergency. The original Fire Station was located on the foreshore, where the Hastings Bowling Club is today. Hastings' First call was to a shed fire on Thursday 28th January 1943. Unfortunately it was a total loss. The equipment that was first issued included knap sacks, buckets, hand pumps and beaters. These were all put into a small cart and that was towed by one of the volunteers' vehicles to the fire. After a while, the brigade grew too big for their first station and looked for a new location. They had found a new home in King Street. It was completed by volunteer labour in October1956, and is still standing today. It served the Hastings Community for over 45 Years. After many years of patient anticipation the construction of the New Fire Station was ceremoniously started with the turning of the first sod by Cyril Ward, our First Captain of Hastings Fire Brigade on Sunday October 29th 2000. The New Home of the Hastings Fire Station at 149 High street is a state of the art modern facility and is great benefit to the new location to the people of Hastings and it's surroundings.
