On Friday 21 several firefighters from Hastings Fire Brigade were deployed to the fire at Hazelwood mine to work during the night.
Firefighters met at Moorooduc fire station for transport and left at 5pm, arriving at Hazelwood around 7pm for dinner before being deployed into the mine itself. Truck mounted monitors were used on the walls of the mine to extinguish the fires, with on board water only lasting for a few minutes before the trucks were required to fill up again. Several tanks of water were used before firefighters were requested to return to the staging area for health checks.
