A Busy Weekend
Category : Brigade News
Saturday November 8 was always going to be busy for the brigade, with the Car Boot sale happening at the fire station, but the day ended up being far busier than anyone had imagined thanks to the hot and breezy conditions.
The Car Boot sale began at 8:30am lasting until 2:30pm, the brigade serving shoppers food and drinks in the heat as they browsed the stalls. It was fantastic to have many people come through and we are looking forward to running the next Car Boot sale next year.
The first of the emergency calls came through at 9:07am when we were responded to playground equipment on fire, on arrival the brigade found a small area smouldering before turning the scene over to the police and departing.
At 11:56am the second emergency call came through, requiring our Tanker to respond to Koo Wee Rup as part of a strike team. On arrival our tanker and crew were tasked with blacking out and making the area safe before returning around 4.00pm
The next and major call was received at 2:30pm when we were responded to a report of trees on fire, with crews able to observe smoke immediately after departing the station. On arrival crews found a row of pine trees over ten metres in height fully alight. Extra tankers were requested and following an excellent effort by all crews the fire was contained and extinguished.
Crews were able to return to station at 5.00pm and enjoyed several hours of well-earned rest and respite before the final fire call for the day, an automatic alarm call happening late at night which ended up being a false alarm.
An exhausting day, it was an excellent effort by all our firefighters over the course of the day, responding to different kinds of emergencies across different townships.
