On October 19 at 11:04am, Hastings and Tyabb fire brigades were both paged to a reported burn off out of control in pine trees on land at Graydens Road. Enroute crews could see a large column of smoke and after being advised by members of the public that best access was via Boes Road, found three piles of pine trees that had been cut down smouldering, with fire having taken hold in the scrub and other pine trees with flame heights between 3-4 metres and spreading.
Extra tankers were called in, with support arriving from Baxter, Bittern, Crib Point and Tyabb Tanker 2, as well as Balnarring Big Fill to help with water supply. Due to the limited water access in the area, Hastings and Baxter tankers undertook fire attack whilst the remaining tankers supplied water to both trucks, before all vehicles took part in blacking out and making the scene safe after the fire had been extinguished.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 2:45pm when they returned to station.
