Fire at the Laundrette
Category : Brigade News
At 10:07pm on October 1 Hastings and Bittern were paged to a reported roof fire at a Laundrette in Victoria Street in Hastings. On arrival crews found smoke issuing from the roof and building up in the store quite quickly.
Two teams wearing breathing apparatus made entry and using the thermal imaging camera quickly located the fire, which turned out to be some clothing burning in a dryer, and extinguished it.
The store was cleared of smoke using a combination of hydraulic ventilation, which involved a fire fighter spraying water out the door to suck the smoke out, before a ventilation fan was used to push out what was left.
Quick action by everyone involved prevented further damage to the store, as the fire was contained to a single drying unit. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
