At 1:52am on November 16, firefighters from Hastings and Bittern were called out to a reported Unit on fire in King St, Hastings. On arrival at the block of units, firefighters were faced with one unit well alight, with fire issuing from several windows and the front door.
Using multiple hose lines, the fire was quickly knocked down, and the Thermal Imaging Camera from Hastings Fire Brigade was used to check for any remaining hot spots which may have led to a re-ignition.
While a smoke detector in the home operated, the neighbours were the first hear it and quickly called the fire brigade, before alerting the occupants inside the unit who evacuated.
Fire Investigators later determined that the fire was not suspicious and may have been caused by electrical equipment.
