On a chilly night of June 20, Hastings Volunteer Fire Brigade responded to what was initially described as an “undefined fire”. Multiple calls were received enroute and on arrival Hastings Pumper found that a caravan was well alight up against the side of a house.

A neighbour who had spotted the fire used a garden hose to try and protect the house, and their efforts prevented any further loss. The fire was quickly extinguished by crews from Hastings and Tyabb wearing Breathing Apparatus, who also made use of the new Thermal Imaging Camera to locate hot spots and ensure the side of the house was sufficiently cool. Nobody was harmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
