Hastings responds to Pakenham Fires
Category : Brigade News
At 3:40pm on January 17, Hastings Fire Brigade was dispatched as part of Strike Team 0864 to Pakenham to assist in fighting the fires in the area. The Strike Team was ordered to first assemble at Langwarrin Fire Station where Hastings formed up with Moorooduc, Langwarrin, Bittern, Mornington and Balnarring, then were sent Code 1 to Pakenham.
Upon arriving they were directed to knock down the flanks of a grass fire that had started in a recycling yard. Hastings Tanker worked with Moorooduc Tanker on part of the fire, and it was quickly stopped. After the initial knock down, the crews proceeded to black out the burnt area, roughly 50 hectares in size, and were joined by crews from a Strike Team 0824, which came from South East Group. Blacking out lasted until 8:30pm. After returning to the staging area, relief crews took over from those that had been first sent and Hastings members arrived back at station at midnight.
