During the early hours of Saturday the 24th of November, Hastings Fire Brigade responded to two deliberately lit car fires in different areas of the town, within two hours of each other.
The first fire at 3:25am involved a Toyota Camry station wagon which was well alight when crews arrived on scene. A second vehicle, a Land Rover Discovery parked next to the station wagon was damaged.
The next fire occurred just before 5am, when a car dumped in the car park of Kings Creek Hotel was destroyed. As the car ran on gas, Somers was responded to provide flare off support and empty the remaining fuel in the tank before it was towed away.
In both calls Hastings Pumper and Tanker responded, and during the first call Hastings had support from Bittern. Crews used breathing apparatus to attack the fire and extinguish it quicker.
